Yes, the albums were heavily packed with studio musicians — although the same could be said of a lot of the Monkees' contemporaries — and other than Michael Nesmith, the Monkees weren't top-tier songwriters. However, the studio musicians masquerading as the band were the best in the business— check out the unforgettable guitar hook supplied here by six-string whiz Louie Shelton and the writers of the material — like Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart who wrote this number — were Top 40 pop geniuses.
